One died as Tesla cybertruck exploded outside Trump Hotel, FBI investigates possible terrorism
A tragic incident unfolded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in flames, resulting in the death of the driver and injuries to seven others. The FBI is currently investigating whether the blast may have been an act of terrorism.
Witnesses captured videos of the explosion, which occurred as the vehicle was parked just outside the hotel. This incident came just hours after a separate attack in New Orleans, where a truck drove into crowds celebrating New Year’s Day, killing 15.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill addressed the media, noting the peculiar circumstances surrounding the incident. “Obviously a Cybertruck, the Trump hotel - there’s lots of questions that we have to answer,” he stated.
FBI Special Agent Jeremy Schwartz confirmed that investigators are working to determine whether the explosion was a terrorist act. “I know everybody’s interested in that word… That is our goal, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said.
The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was found deceased in the vehicle, which had been rented in Colorado. According to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, the explosion was not caused by the Cybertruck itself, but rather by “very large fireworks and/or a bomb” carried in the truck’s bed. He assured that all vehicle telemetry data was positive at the time of the incident.
McMahill reported that two of the injured individuals were transported to local hospitals, while the others sustained minor injuries. The Trump International Hotel was evacuated, with most guests relocated to another hotel for their safety.
