“Kraven the Hunter” opens to disappointing box office results
Sony’s latest superhero film, Kraven the Hunter, has debuted with a disappointing box office total of just $11 million, marking the lowest opening for any Sony-Marvel movie to date.
The film, directed by J.C. Chandor and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character, faced significant challenges in a crowded superhero market and shifting audience preferences.
This lackluster performance continues a troubling trend for Sony, following the underwhelming showings of Morbius and Madame Web, which grossed $73.8 million and $43.8 million, respectively.
Industry analysts attribute Kraven the Hunter’s struggles to a combination of factors, including poor audience reception, a lack of excitement surrounding the character, and the impact of recent actors’ and writers’ strikes that delayed production and increased costs.
Originally budgeted at $90 million, the film’s budget ballooned to $110 million due to these delays.
Despite being positioned as Sony’s first R-rated entry in the Spider-Man universe, the film failed to generate significant buzz, with social media engagement lagging behind other recent releases.
Critics and audiences expressed skepticism about the decision to focus on a supervillain character, further complicating the film’s reception.

With its opening weekend performance, the film will struggle to maintain screen presence against these more anticipated titles.
