Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan barred from bowling in England
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has suspended Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from bowling in England following concerns regarding his bowling action.
“Shakib’s action was reported by the standing umpires while he was playing for Surrey in the County Championship match against Somerset in September,” the board said in a statement.
His action was flagged during the County Championship, where he was playing for Surrey. An independent assessment of his bowling action was conducted at Loughborough University.
According to ECB regulations, Shakib will not be permitted to bowl in any matches until his action is deemed legal. He is required to undergo an independent assessment to evaluate the legality of his bowling action before he can return to the bowling crease.
Earlier this month, the university found that the elbow extension in his bowling action exceeded the 15-degree threshold as defined in the Regulations.
“This suspension takes effect from the receipt of the independent assessment on 10 December 2024, and follows the process set out in the ECB’s Regulations for the Review of Bowlers Reported with a Suspected Illegal Bowling Action,” it said.
