Has Sindh government announced two public holidays in December?

Essential services will remain open during holidays

The Sindh government has announced that there would be a public holiday on December 25 (Wednesday) on the occasion of Quaid-i-Azam Day/Christmas.

All offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under the administrative control of the provincial government would be closed except those engaged in essential services.

This was stated in a notification issued on Saturday.

In a separate notification, the provincial government declared December 26 (Thursday) as a public holiday for Christians only on the occasion of the day after Christmas.

Jinnah was born on Dec 25, 1876, in Karachi. The day is a public holiday and the national flag is hoisted on principal government buildings throughout the country.

The day would begin with gun salutes in both the federal and provincial capitals, followed by a change of the guard ceremony at Quaid-i-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi.

Various official ceremonies and events will take place nationwide to honour Quaid’s life, his political struggles, and his pivotal role in the formation of Pakistan.
