Turkey has named Burhan Kiroglu as the interim chargé d’affaires at its embassy in Damascus, marking the first appointment to this position in a considerable time.

Following the closure of the Turkish embassy in 2012 amid the Syrian civil war, the diplomatic mission has remained inactive.

The timeline for Kiroglu to officially take office is still uncertain, according to reports.

In statements to international media, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that Ankara plans to reopen its embassy in Damascus once the conditions allow, particularly after the potential removal of President Bashar al-Assad.
