K-pop boy band TXT to take ‘extended break’
K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together (TXT) will be taking an extended hiatus beginning in January 2025, their agency BigHit Music announced on December 10, 2024. The announcement, made on the fan community platform Weverse, confirmed that all group activities will cease after their performance at the 39th Golden Disc Awards in Fukuoka, Japan on January 5th, 2025 (KST). The agency cited the need for the members to rest and spend quality time with their families, emphasizing their return in 2025 with renewed energy.
This news comes just weeks after leader Soobin announced his own temporary hiatus on November 20th, citing health concerns and needing sufficient rest to recover. BigHit Music’s statement at the time indicated that Soobin had been unwell and sought medical attention.
TXT, who debuted in 2019 with their EP The Dream Chapter: Star, most recently released their seventh EP, The Star Chapter: Sanctuary, in November 2024. This upcoming break will be their first extended period of inactivity since their debut, marking a significant pause in their consistently active six-year career.
Although the precise length of the hiatus remains unstated, BigHit Music assured fans (MOAs) that the group will return with a stronger presence, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support. The agency also confirmed that the members’ Weverse Direct Message function will remain operational during the break, allowing fans to send messages of support.
The planned break is reminiscent of a similar extended rest period taken by TXT’s labelmates, BTS, in 2019. BTS announced their hiatus in August of that year and resumed activities in September.
