The World Chess Championship reached a thrilling juncture as Chinese chess grandmaster Ding Liren delivered a stunning victory in Game 12, leveling the score against Indian chess grandmaster Gukesh D at 6-6.

With only two classical games remaining in this high-stakes match, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation as both players aim for the ultimate chess crown.

Ding Liren, the reigning champion and a formidable strategist, described his performance as “the best game I have played in recent times.” His victory in this pivotal game came after a tough loss in Game 11, showcasing his ability to bounce back under immense pressure.

Ding seized control early on, capitalizing on Gukesh’s decision to play 10…h6, a move Ding later deemed “too slow.” This pivotal moment allowed Ding to execute a series of subtle yet impactful maneuvers, giving him a decisive edge. By move 17, Gukesh acknowledged he was in deep trouble after Ding’s powerful 17.Qd2, which solidified Ding’s dominance on the board.

Following the game, Ding expressed his satisfaction with his play, emphasizing the importance of maintaining composure and focus. “I felt confident after my opening strategy paid off,” he remarked during the post-game press conference, visibly pleased with his performance.

On the other hand, Gukesh maintained his composure despite the disappointment of the loss. “Today was obviously a bad game, but I wouldn’t draw too much from it. Bad games happen,” he stated, reflecting on the intense pressure of the championship. He added that while the overall score of 6-6 feels fair, losing after leading in the previous game was disheartening.
