The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a snowfall security alert for Murree and the Galiyat region following the first snowfall of the season on Sunday.

In response, a snowfall security plan has been activated in Murree, along with the operationalization of all Sahulat centers to assist tourists.

Civil Defense volunteers have taken control of the routes leading to Murree and conducted a full-dress mock rescue exercise for tourists. Irfan Ali, the Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, visited Murree to assess the security arrangements and delivered three truckloads of security equipment to the Deputy Commissioner of Murree.

In addition, Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Aamir Rafique has instructed the traffic police to deploy additional traffic wardens to Murree immediately. Police officers from Murree who are currently assigned to the Rawalpindi Division have also been encouraged to volunteer for duties at Murree police stations.

The PMD has predicted a cold wave is expected to impact most parts of the country from December 8th to 14th. This cold wave will likely lead to a significant drop in both daytime and nighttime temperatures. In Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, daytime temperatures may fall by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius below normal, while Balochistan and Sindh could see drops of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. Cold conditions with gusty winds are anticipated in Sindh, Balochistan, and parts of Punjab, and frost is expected to develop in the plains.
