Balochistan at standstill due to protest over young student’s abduction

The strike, which began on November 19, is supported by political parties and trade organizations

A province-wide wheel-jam strike continues in Balochistan, protesting the abduction of 11-year-old student Musavir Kakar.

Schools, colleges, and universities in Quetta, Loralai, and Kohlu remain closed as the strike, called in response to the boy’s disappearance, enters its second day.

Musavir Kakar was abducted on November 15 while walking home from school in Quetta’s Patel Bagh area. His family has vowed to continue protests until his safe return.

The strike, which began on November 19, is supported by political parties and trade organizations.

The Balochistan Education Department confirmed the closure of all educational institutions due to the strike, with exams for middle and government schools postponed.

The strike has brought the cities to a standstill. All government and private schools are closed, and major markets, shopping malls, and businesses remain shut in solidarity with the family. Security measures have been heightened, with increased checks on vehicles and individuals at entry and exit points.

Musavir’s father, Haji Raz Muhammad, has appealed to the army chief for intervention. Speaking to reporters outside the Balochistan High Court, he expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation, stating that five days have passed since his son’s abduction without any information.

He thanked the public for their support and dismissed rumors of contact with the abductors, adding that future actions will be decided by the protest committee. The family’s desperation underscores the growing concern over the lack of progress in the investigation and the widespread support for their demands.
