Fire breaks out in containers placed to block roads in Islamabad

A fire erupted in shipping containers placed near Islamabad’s Khanna Police Station on Saturday which had been placed there to prevent potential protests. Its video went viral on social media.

According to rescue officials, the fire occurred during welding operations on the containers. Teams from Islamabad Fire and Rescue put out the fire and there were no reports of any injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident, as confirmed by rescue authorities.

The Islamabad police have blocked at least six sections of motorways, including key entry and exit points in Islamabad to halt PTI protesters from marching towards the capital city.

M-1: Islamabad to Peshawar; M-2: Islamabad to Lahore; M-3: Lahore to Abdul Hakeem; M-4: Pindi Bhattian to Multan; M-14: Hakla to Yarik; M-11: Lahore to Sialkot are blocked due to road maintenance.

Moreover, an additional 30,000 security personnel have arrived to maintain law and order in Islamabad. This force includes: Punjab Police: 19,000 personnel, Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 1,000 personnel, Sindh: 5,000 personnel, Frontier Corps: 5,000 personnel.

All units would assist the Islamabad police in dispersing any potential protestors. Sources added that all security personnel were “fully equipped” to handle demonstrations.

The Islamabad police have around 11,000 officers and the combined forces aim to maintain control over the situation as tensions rise in the capital.
