Actress Mathira has reiterated that recent videos linked to her are fake and artificial intelligence (AI) generated and called for making an example of those who leak and create fake videos of girls and celebrities.

“Basically, someone did this cheap act in 2021 and then I did contact the cybercrime. A resident of Jhang edited morphed videos not just mine but others’ videos and sold them for an average of Rs2,000 to people,” she told 24 Digital earlier this week.

She added that the matter had been cleared out and did not lead to a “big issue”. According to her, people urged her to “let it go out” as it was not a big issue.

But the fake videos again resurfaced in 2022.

Recently, she became the latest victim of the troubling trend of fake videos amid alleged social media content that went viral on social media.

“You know who is to be blamed for this, those who keep it and send it to others on WhatsApp just for their pleasure,” Mathira said and claimed that she also confronted Facebook pages promoting such content.

“I think someone’s personal details are not news,” Mathira said and added that things kept getting worse when some people promoted such fake videos.

She thanked her mother, family friend, and the channel she’s working with for the support. “I am bold. I do wear short clothes,” Mathira said and added that she has owned the “topless shoot” done in the past.

According to the actress, the word and headline “leak” leads to mental stress. The TV host added that she was going through severe depression, panic and anxiety attacks. “I am very much lost.”

Mathira stated that when a girl experiences such an event, it severely impacts her life, often drawing her into a downward spiral. She clarified that the viral videos did not feature any of her tattoos.

The Raasta actor lamented that her loved ones had to go through a “difficult phase” because of supporting her.

“I am not going to cry and I am not going to break in front of the camera,” she said, “I cry when I am alone.”

She called for making an example of those people who leak or make videos. “When we have three to four examples, these leak programmes will end.”

In an interview with Aaj News in January this year, cyber security expert Rafay Baloch said: “No one has the answer for how to be safe from the deepfake. You cannot prevent somebody from creating your deepfake.”

But he shared that Facebook, Google, and top research institutions are working on its detection.

When asked how deepfakes can be detected with the help of AI, he explained that deepfakes are being created when two AI algorithms fight each other. He added that one creates it and another detects it.

But there are some tips by which such videos can be detected.
