A seven-member Supreme Court constitutional bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, has adjourned the hearing on the audio leaks commission case until next week, pending a report from the federal government.

The court has directed the Attorney General to obtain instructions from the government and inform the court about the government’s intentions regarding the commission.

Justice Aminuddin raised concerns about the commission’s current status, noting that its chairman has retired and another member has been appointed as a Supreme Court judge, questioning whether the commission remains a live issue. He further stated that the formation of a new commission would render the current case moot.

The Attorney General requested time to seek instructions from the government on whether it intends to form a new commission. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar pointed out that the cabinet’s decision to form the commission still stands.
