Rawalpindi Metro Bus driver and staff arrested after child’s death
Police have arrested the driver and staff of a Metro bus following the death of a four-year-old boy who was run over at the Liaquat Bagh Metro Bus Station. A case has been registered against them for negligence and recklessness.
The incident occurred when four-year-old Rehan, who was traveling with his family, became trapped between the bus and the station gate. Sources say the absence of a Metro guard at the gate contributed to the accident.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), filed by the child’s mother at Waris Khan Police Station, Rehan, a resident of Nathiagali, was visiting his grandmother in Rawalpindi with his mother.
While disembarking the Metro bus, Rehan got stuck in a gap alongside the gate. The bus driver allegedly started the bus before the station door was fully closed, causing the child to fall onto the track and under the wheels. The FIR states that the child’s cries for help went unanswered.
The case highlights alleged negligence on the part of both the bus driver and the Metro bus administration. Police have registered a case and taken the accused into custody.
