Sheikh Rashid cleared in Zardari murder accusation case
A district and sessions court in Islamabad has acquitted former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in a case where he accused President Asif Ali Zardari of plotting to assassinate former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood announced the verdict today, dismissing the case against Sheikh Rashid. The court had reserved its judgment on the acquittal plea yesterday.
Sheikh Rashid’s arrest on February 2nd followed his allegations against President Zardari. A complaint was filed by Raja Inayat, a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), following Sheikh Rashid’s accusations.
The Abpara Police Station registered a case against Sheikh Rashid under sections 120-B, 153-A, and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code, charges related to conspiracy and incitement.
The case, filed in February of last year, was initiated by the vice president of the PPP’s Rawalpindi division.
The charges included allegations of conspiracy and inciting public unrest. The complaint centered on Sheikh Rashid’s statement regarding a plot to assassinate Imran Khan. The court’s acquittal clears Sheikh Rashid of all charges.
