Heavy snowfall strands vehicles at Gilgit Baltistan’s Khunjerab Top
Severe snowfall at Khunjerab Top, a border area between Pakistan and China in Gilgit-Baltistan, has resulted in three passenger vehicles and several cargo trucks becoming stranded at various locations.
Passengers stuck at an elevation of 15,000 feet are urgently calling for rescue.
The Khunjerab pass is situated over 15,000 feet above sea level and the high altitude of the border necessitates closure in the winter months due to cold temperatures and lack of oxygen.
GB’s upper regions are experiencing intermittent heavy snowfall, which has caused significant travel disruptions.
In addition, a new wave of rain and snowfall has commenced in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Dark clouds loom over the capital, Muzaffarabad, signaling an imminent downpour.
Meanwhile, the Mahodand Lake area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kalam has experienced its first snowfall of the winter, covering the lake with a pristine white blanket of snow.
Rainfall is also ongoing in the plains of Swat, including Mingora and the upper areas of Malam Jabba and Kalam. Light snow on the mountains of Kalam has brought a chill to the air, prompting residents to start wearing warm clothing.
