PM Shehbaz arrives in Saudi Arabia to attend Arab-Islamic Summit
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to participate in the Arab-Islamic Summit.
The summit would be held on Monday (tomorrow). Its agenda includes reviewing the situation arising from Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon.
PM Shehebaz will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. The summit will also deliberate on the broader Middle East situation, focusing on the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestine.
The prime minister is also expected to hold meetings with various global leaders on the sidelines of the event. The summit, convened by the Saudi government, will focus on key issues in the Middle East, including the current situation in Gaza.
Heads of state and government from member countries of the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are attending this extraordinary gathering.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi accompanied the PM during the summit.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has already arrived in Saudi Arabia and performed Umrah. He is scheduled to participate in the OIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting on November 11.
Following his Saudi visit, PM Sharif will travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 12 to 13, to attend the COP29 climate conference. The United Nations-organized conference will take place in Baku from November 11 to 22.
During his visit, the premier would advocate for Pakistan’s position on climate change, highlighting the country’s vulnerability to severe climate challenges and emphasising the need for environmental justice.
He would also push for increased cooperation with affected nations under the Loss and Damage Fund.
