Cinemagoers have seen popular dramas and TV series being adapted into films, owing to their huge success and people’s demand.

Last month, Variety reported that Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment are set to adapt their hit crime-thriller series Mirzapur into a feature film, making it one of the first Indian streaming successes to transition from a digital platform to theatres

It merits here mentioning that such development occurred six years after the crime-thriller series was aired on a streaming giant platform.

Similar expectations have been made by some people about the Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, which drew wide popularity for its storyline and acting.

The ARY Digital drama revolves around a family drama, highlighting family emotions and life struggles. It was huge in terms of the return of Fahad Mustafa and Emmad Irfani to the small screen after a long hiatus.

Mustafa and Hania Aamir’s chemistry was also new to viewers. Apart from this, it had a stellar lineup, including Javed Sheikh, Bushra Ansari, Naeema Butt, and Areej Chaudhry. Following its immense popularity, it was announced that the final episode would be screened in cinemas on November 5. The drama premiered in the first week of July.

At the screening of the drama at a local cinema in Karachi, actress Nadia Khan said that the drama’s ending turned out to be “much better than she had anticipated.”

She was of the view that while the director could have extended the series by adding 10 more episodes due to its popularity, it was “commendable that he chose to conclude the drama at the right time.”

While observing the crowd at the cinema, the Pehchaan actor suggested that a film should be made based on the drama, showcasing the future story of Mustafa and Sharjeena.

“If Mustafa and Sharjeena are together in a film, audiences would definitely flock to the cinemas to see them,” Nadia said.

In reaction to her views, drama director Badar Mahmood stated that it was not feasible to create a film adaptation so soon as it required the hard work of the entire team.

“If even one member of the team is missing—be it the writer or any cast member—the project wouldn’t be the same,” he said, “such decisions cannot be made hastily.”

Mehmood added that the drama had been pre-shot with a focus on a “happy ending” and they were aware that audiences desired a positive conclusion.

The final episodes of the drama included scenes that raised concerns among viewers, fearing that Mustafa’s character might attempt suicide or that Hania’s character would leave him out of frustration. But the actual ending brought relief and joy to the audience.
