Punjab’s Public Accounts Committee to prioritise underperforming departments
The Punjab’s Public Accounts Committee-I decided on Tuesday to prioritise the underperforming departments.
This occurred during the provincial PAC meeting in Lahore which was presided over by the Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar. It was the inaugural meeting of the PAC-I.
On September 4, 2024, PTI leader Bhachar was elected as the Punjab’s PAC.
Officials, including the director general for Audit Punjab, the director general for Audit Works Punjab, and the director general for Audit Commercial Punjab, briefed the committee on the provincial departments.
Four members, including Independent Power Producers’ leader Shoaib Siddiqui, also attended the meeting. The second meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) where the Finance Department would give the briefing.
In September, the Public Accounts Committee-III of the Punjab Assembly expressed its concern at irregularities worth Rs211 million in the audit report of Mandi Bahauddin district health authority during the financial year 2022-23.
The committee sought within seven days an inquiry report into the procurements made and consumption of the items purchased by the authority during the period.
It also desired that the administrator of the authority be removed from the post until completion of the inquiry proceedings.
