The Sindh government has stopped paying salaries of over 1,000 teachers in Sindh who were absent from their duty, or have gone AWOL(absent without official leave).

A report was submitted by the Scrutiny Committee to the provincial education secretary.

The committee was established to investigate complaints regarding ghost teachers in the province.

Sources indicate that a significant number of teachers are currently overseas on extended leave.

In response to the report’s findings, the secretary has instructed all district education officers (DEOs) to immediately suspend the salaries of the absent teachers, with official notifications issued.

Previously, the Sindh education department dismissed eight ghost teachers who had been receiving salaries for the past two years while residing abroad.

The secretary, Akbar Leghari, emphasized that Taluka education officers throughout the province are actively identifying ghost teachers and warned that strict action would be taken against them.
