American professional football wide receiver Chris Godwin sustained a serious injury during a National Football League (NFL) game when a Baltimore Ravens defender rolled onto his lower left leg, causing his ankle to bend awkwardly.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers player was carted off the field with an ankle dislocation and is anticipated to miss the rest of the season. Reports said that he would require surgery this week, with hopes for a complete recovery by 2025.

Before the injury, Godwin ranked third among wide receivers in fantasy points per game.

As support for Godwin poured in from fans, some expressed concerns about his presence on the field during that critical moment. The Buccaneers were trailing by 10 points in their own red zone, lacking timeouts and needing an unlikely series of plays—a touchdown or field goal, a successful onside kick, and another score to tie or win.
