TikToker lawyer who spread news of Lahore rape arrested

Police now consider the entire matter a case of false information.

Faisal Jutt, a lawyer who initially publicized allegations of a rape on TikTok, has been arrested despite retracting his claims. The arrest follows a police investigation that concluded the alleged incident at a private college in Gulberg, Lahore, never occurred.

Jutt, in a subsequent TikTok video, stated that police investigations, including statements from the alleged victim’s father and uncle, and the SP City, Banu, confirmed no such incident took place. He highlighted the police statement indicating no such case was reported at any hospital.

The initial viral video, which claimed a female student had been raped by a security guard at the college, sparked widespread outrage and prompted the formation of a high-level committee by the Punjab Chief Minister. Police now consider the entire matter a case of false information.

An FIR has been registered against the individuals responsible for spreading the viral video, with the SHO of Defence A police station filing the complaint. The FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) has also launched an investigation into those who spread the false allegations.

Jutt questioned the public outcry, stating he received numerous messages from young men and women believing the allegations. He expressed regret over the damage caused by the false accusations, emphasizing his commitment to women’s and children’s rights and refuting claims that he fabricated the video. He urged people to refrain from protests unless the accuser is present.

Despite this retraction and apology, Jutt was arrested, with the news of his arrest confirmed by Maryam Nawaz.
