PTI calls meeting to finalise plans for Oct 15 protest

The meeting will be held in CM House Peshawar

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has called an urgent meeting at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar at 3 PM today to discuss the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)‘s planned protest in Islamabad’s D-Chowk.

The protest, initially scheduled for October 15, coincides with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit being held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16.

The PTI had previously announced postponing protests in Punjab, opting instead for a demonstration in Islamabad during the SCO summit. The summit has prompted stringent security measures in Islamabad, including the closure of all restaurants for five days and a three-day school closure.

PTI leader Sheikh Waqas announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the meeting will include national and provincial assembly members from all four regions of the province, along with other party leaders. The meeting will review preparations for the October 15 protest and finalize strategies to maximize participation. Responsibilities will be assigned to party leaders and elected representatives to ensure a successful demonstration.

The PTI had conditionally agreed to postpone the protest the previous day, stating that they would reconsider if a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan was facilitated.

Following this, several parties, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and Jamaat-e-Islami, urged the PTI to postpone the protest during the SCO summit. JUI chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman spoke with PTI’s Asad Qaiser, urging a postponement and suggesting consultations on constitutional amendments.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman also requested that medical facilities and access to Imran Khan’s personal physician be provided.
