YouTuber Agha Sheikh Sarwar abducted in Karachi, claims PTI
YouTuber Agha Sheikh Sarwar has allegedly been abducted from his home in Karachi for covering PTI protests at the D Chowk in Islamabad, Imran Khan’s party has claimed.
Supporters of PTI gathered in the federal capital last week to advocate for the release of their leader, who has been imprisoned for over a year facing multiple charges, including sedition and inciting rebellion, and supremacy of the Constitution.
Sarwar, who is said to be a PTI supporter, was documenting the protests when he and fellow activist Umar Malik were taken to an unknown location, according to the party.
“Social media activist, journalist, and YouTuber Agha Sheikh Sarwar was reportedly abducted from his home at 3am by police, Rangers, and unknown individuals,” the PTI said in a Facebook post.
“Agha Sheikh Sarwar’s only ‘crime’ was covering the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protests in Islamabad at a time when all media, TV channels, and news agencies are under the control of the fake government and the establishment. We refer to this as an undeclared martial law; it is essentially a declared martial law in effect,” it added.
The PTI has expressed outrage over the incident, claiming that Sarwar’s parents were assaulted while trying to protect him. Reports indicate that unidentified men damaged furniture and doors during the alleged abduction.
