Gandapur given authority to talk to Qaumi Jirga

Gandapur says dialogue is the only answer

The representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s major political parties met in the chief minister house for a jirga on Thursday.

Participants included Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Aimal Wali Khan, Amir Muqam and Mohsin Dawar.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also participated in the jirga.

The jirga discussed the recent events in WANA and Khyber as well as the overall security situation in the country.

A jirga will now be set up under CM Gandapur that will negotiate with the Qaumi Jirga.

In his opening statement, Gandapur said that a jirga was the traditional solution to disputes in the province.

He added that violence was not the answer to any problem and all issues must be resolved through dialogue.

The jirga could be a major development in political stability in the province as Gandapur and Kundi have been continuously at loggerheads over the political situation in the province.

The presence of Naqvi also marks a major step forward, as he had been at odds with Gandapur until very recently over PTI’s protest in Islamabad.

The jirga is convening a few days after the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement was banned by the federal government after it planned its own jirga in KP. Members of all political parties have been warned against participating in the PTM’s jirga.
