Fawad Khan and Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor have begun filming their romantic comedy, Abir Gulaal, in and around London, confirming rumours about Khan’s return to the Bollywood scene, Variety reported.

Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, known for Chalti Rahe Zindagi, the film is produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures, with producers including Vivek B Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy. The production is set to continue in the UK throughout October and November.

According to Bagdi, the film delves into the lives of two individuals who unintentionally help each other heal, leading to an unexpected blossoming of love.

The producers expressed confidence in the film’s appeal, noting, “Fawad has a massive global fan base, and we expect audiences and his fans to warmly receive this film, showcasing him in his most endearing role to date. The chemistry between Fawad and Vaani is anticipated to light up the screen with their captivating performances and undeniable charm.”

Reports previously suggested that the Pakistani actor would make his return to the Indian film industry alongside Vaani Kapoor and Ridhi Dogra, with a cameo in the highly anticipated comedy horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 starring Kartik Aaryan. But Abir Gulaal is his only confirmed project in India.

Khan, known for his role in Humsafar, last appeared in Bollywood in Karan Johar’s 2016 romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which also featured Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.

His return is particularly noteworthy given the ban imposed on Pakistani actors and artists in India by the All Indian Cine Workers Association in 2019, following the Pulwama attacks. This followed an earlier ban in 2016 by the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association, which restricted Pakistani talent from working in India amid rising tensions between the two countries.
