Yashma Gill has confirmed that she is not stepping away from the entertainment industry, clarifying her comments made during her introduction of religious preacher Dr Zakir Naik at a lecture held at Governor House in Karachi were “misinterpreted.”

In an Instagram story posted on Sunday evening, Gill explained that she attended the event to share her personal struggles related to her spiritual journey. She acknowledged that her comments may not have been conveyed clearly, partly due to background noise and technical issues with the microphone.

“I made a statement that may have led to the misunderstanding that I’m leaving acting,” she stated, emphasising her commitment to her career in the entertainment field.

“I would like to clear any misunderstandings formed from my end as I am still acting and working and being an actress was only mentioned as my profession before going ahead with the question,” Gill said.

She believes that watching the entire video from the beginning would provide better context.

In clips from the event, Gill introduced herself as an actor and discussed her experience with “falling into the trap of atheism” during her college years. She shared how Dr Naik’s videos and lectures played a “significant role” in reconnecting her with her faith. During the session, she posed a question about predestination and free will.

When responding to her query, Dr Naik mistakenly referred to her as a former actor, which contributed to the confusion surrounding her career status. Gill emphasised her ongoing commitment to acting and her professional endeavours in her clarification.

Gill shared her thoughts on her ongoing journey of balancing her spiritual beliefs with worldly life, stating that while she is uncertain about the future, she remains committed to this path. She expressed gratitude for Dr Naik’s influence in bringing her closer to her faith and encouraged others to attend his lectures.

In a follow-up post, Gill explained that she did not correct the misunderstanding during the event because it would have been disrespectful to interrupt Dr Naik while he was speaking.

The Islamic preacher is visiting Pakistan for a month-long tour, where he will give lectures in major cities including Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore. This marks his first visit to Pakistan in 30 years; his last trip was in 1992, during which he met the renowned religious scholar Dr Israr Ahmed in Lahore before returning to India.
