The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, along with other northern regions, are set to experience rainfall from October 5 to 8 due to an approaching westerly weather system.

This new spell of rain is anticipated to affect Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and the northern parts of Balochistan. In contrast, Sindh will continue to face hot and dry conditions.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Punjab has directed local officials to remain vigilant and prepare drainage equipment and staff in anticipation of the rains. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised the public to avoid dilapidated buildings.

A weather advisory indicated that moderate to heavy rainfall may increase water levels in local streams and nullahs across areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Chitral, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Landslides could disrupt travel in vulnerable areas.

Additionally, windstorms and lightning risk weak structures, including mud houses, electric poles, and vehicles.

The Met Office has forecasted rain and thunderstorms, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms, for multiple districts including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad on October 5, 7, and 8. Intermittent rains are also expected in Sahiwal and surrounding areas from October 6 to 8.

In AJK, rain and thunderstorms with possible heavy showers are anticipated in regions like Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad. In GB, similar weather is forecasted for areas including Skardu and Hunza.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see rainfall and thunderstorms across various districts, while Balochistan’s Quetta and surrounding areas may also experience rain and storms over the weekend.
