ECP disqualifies 11 former MNAs over failure to file tax returns

Several members of Sindh and Balochistan Assembly were also disqualified

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified several former lawmakers for failing to submit their annual wealth statements.

Eleven former members of the National Assembly and seven former members of the Sindh Provincial Assembly were named in the disqualification notices issued by the ECP.

The ECP’s decision stems from the failure of these individuals to file their returns for the 2022-23 financial year, the deadline for which was September 30. The disqualification will remain in effect until the outstanding returns are submitted.

Among those disqualified from the National Assembly are prominent figures including Khuram Dastgir, Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, Ishaq Khan, Muhammad Ali, Kamaluddin, Ismat Ullah, Syed Mahmud Shah, and Thamina Matlub.

From the Sindh Provincial Assembly, the disqualified members include Mus Naseeba, Shamim Ara Panhwar, Mahmud Shah, Rubina Irfan, Adil Ahmed, Hizbullah Bugio, Arslan Taj, Arif Mustafa, Imran Shah, Ali Ghulam, and Ms. Tahira. Additionally, several former members of the Balochistan Provincial Assembly, including Yar Muhammad Rand, Sikandar Ali, and Mir Hamal, were also disqualified.

The ECP has issued formal notifications detailing the disqualifications. The move highlights the ECP’s efforts to enforce transparency and accountability among elected officials.
