The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained eight passengers attempting to travel abroad with fraudulent documents at Jinnah International Airport.

The arrests occurred during two separate operations on October 1.

In the first operation, five individuals were apprehended while trying to travel to Saudi Arabia, where they claimed they intended to perform Umrah.

Immigration officials found their documentation suspicious, leading to further investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that the group planned to beg in the Gulf nation.

In the second operation, three passengers were caught trying to fly to Azerbaijan on fake documents, allegedly for studying there. One of those arrested, Muhammad Hussain, is a police employee from Peshawar.

He attempted to travel without a no objection certificate (NOC) from his department and did not disclose his employment status.

The FIA spokesperson noted that an agent from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had arranged visas for these travelers, charging them significant sums for the service.

The arrests come amid rising concerns from Gulf countries regarding the activities of Pakistani expatriates, particularly related to begging under the pretense of pilgrimages.

Recent reports indicated that many Pakistanis traveling abroad, especially to Iraq and Saudi Arabia, were engaging in begging upon arrival.
