Yousuf steps down as member of national selection committee

He was part of the selection panel that chose the team for the recent T20 World Cup

Mohammad Yousuf has resigned from his position as a member of the Pakistan cricket team’s selection committee citing personal reasons.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Yousaf expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Pakistan cricket.

Yousaf, a highly successful former batsman for Pakistan, stated he was proud to have served the national team and confident in the talent and dedication of the current players. He expressed his best wishes for their future endeavors. He also thanked his fellow selectors.

Yousuf’s selection committee tenure, which began in July of this year, was not without criticism.

He was part of the selection panel that chose the team for the recent T20 World Cup, where Pakistan exited in the first round. The committee was also responsible for selecting the team that suffered a whitewash in a recent home Test series.

Despite a less-than-successful stint as a selector, Yousaf’s playing career was illustrious. Between 1998 and 2010, he scored 7530 Test runs and 9720 ODI runs, including a record 1788 runs in a single calendar year (2006).
