Former Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington battled intense urges to drink for months before his tragic death by suicide in 2017.

This struggle is explored in the new book It Starts With One: The Legend and Legacy of Linkin Park, set to be released on October 1 by Hachette Books, according to People magazine.

Author Jason Lipshutz provides an in-depth account of the band’s two-decade journey, including the heartbreaking loss of their frontman.

Bennington passed away on July 20, 2017, at the age of 41. Following his death, Linkin Park held a tribute concert in October and entered a period of hiatus. Recently, the band announced the addition of Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara as a co-vocalist and Colin Brittain as their new drummer, joining existing members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn.

In the days following Bennington’s death, the band shared a heartfelt letter on social media, expressing their profound grief.

“Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened,” the letter stated. It reflected on how Bennington’s music addressed his personal demons, which resonated deeply with fans.

The upcoming book includes personal anecdotes from family and friends that detail the months and days leading up to Bennington’s death, shedding light on his internal struggles.
