Possibility of major reduction in electricity prices as govt, IPPs try to resolve issues
A significant breakthrough is expected soon in negotiations between the government and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) regarding electricity tariffs as both parties have finally come together to resolve the issue.
Sources within the Power Division reveal that the government has agreed to reduce the tariff tax on government-owned IPPs.
Sources further indicate that IPPs are also willing to ‘voluntarily’ reduce their tariffs in the national interest.
Consumers can expect good news regarding electricity bill relief next month, the sources added.

All deadlocks have been removed, and discussions are progressing rapidly. Over 100 powerhouses are being reviewed for tariff adjustments.
Several IPPs will be shut down in phases, while the remaining will receive tariff relief.
The government will reduce unnecessary taxes, with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) already submitting proposals. A decision has been made to reduce the special tariff rate for the industrial sector.
