Two Pakistani female peacekeepers have been recognised for their “outstanding performance and commitment” in promoting the ideals of the United Nations, according to the military’s media wing.

In a statement, the under secretary general of the Department of Peace Operations, UNHQ awarded Major Sania Safdar, who served in the UN Peacekeeping Mission Cyprus, and Major Komal Masood, who served in the Central African Republic, with the Gender Advocacy Award.

While serving in an international environment, both officers demonstrated “exceptional professionalism, and dedication and made significant contributions” to the mission’s peace and stability efforts, especially with regard to advancing women’s meaningful participation in peacekeeping operations.

“Respective Mission Force Commanders have acknowledged their role in peacekeeping,” the ISPR said.

“This recognition is a testament to Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the UN Peacekeeping mandate, professionalism and diligent efforts by the Pakistani Peacekeepers to make a positive impact in peacekeeping efforts,” it added.

Pakistan, the ISPR said, remained committed to playing a “pivotal role as a responsible member of the international community to help realise the ideals of global peace and security through active support in UN Peacekeeping Missions.”
