Arrested PTI MNAs reach Assembly

Barrister Gohar stated that the production orders were a legal right and should be issued

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s members of the National Assembly who were arrested earlier this week were brought to the Parliament after Speaker Ayaz Sadiq issued production orders.

The production orders were issued for the following PTI members: Sher Afzal Marwat, Aamir Dogar, Ahmad Chattha, Zain Qureshi, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Zubair Khan, Awais Haider, Shah Ahad, Maulana Naseem Shah, and Yousuf Khan.

These orders were issued under Rule 108 of the National Assembly’s Rules and Procedures. The production orders state that the President had summoned the Parliament session on August 30 under Article 54(1) of the Constitution, and the session is ongoing. According to Section 8 of the 2007 Act, the Speaker is issuing production orders for these members to be presented in the session.

The production orders were sent to the Ministry of Interior, the Inspector General of Police, the Islamabad Commissioner, and the National Assembly Secretariat’s Sergeant-at-Arms. The police have been instructed to hand over the aforementioned members to the Sergeant-at-Arms before each session of the National Assembly.

Prior to the issuance of the production orders, a PTI delegation led by Barrister Gohar Khan met with the Speaker to inquire about the status of the orders. The delegation, which included Dawar Kundi and Ali Muhammad Khan, expressed concern over the delay in bringing the arrested members to the assembly.

Barrister Gohar stated that the production orders were a legal right and should be issued promptly, as the members were arrested from the Assembly floor. He emphasized that the Parliament has its own security forces responsible for ensuring the safety of its members within the premises.

Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Mohsin Naqvi, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also met with the Speaker regarding the matter.

Following the meeting, sources revealed that the production orders for the arrested PTI members were issued for the next session, scheduled for 11:00 AM on the same day.
