Maulana writes to CJP for expediting cases on interest-based system

He urged the Supreme Court to swiftly resolve the appeals filed by banks

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, urging him to expedite the decision on appeals filed by various banks against the Federal Shariat Court’s ruling on the elimination of the interest-based financial system.

In his letter, Maulana Fazlur Rehman commended the Chief Justice’s recent concise verdict on thecase related to Khatm-e-Nubuwwat, expressing confidence that a detailed judgment will further reassure Pakistani Muslims.

The JUI-F leader highlighted the Federal Shariat Court’s 2022 ruling, which mandated the elimination of interest from the financial system within a five-year timeframe.

He urged the Supreme Court to swiftly resolve the appeals filed by banks against this decision, enabling the government to take necessary steps towards establishing an interest-free financial framework.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s letter underscores the significance of the interest-free banking issue for many religious groups in Pakistan, and his call for swift action on the appeals is likely to generate further discussion on this contentious topic.
