Bill seeking increase in number of SC judges to deferred in NA session
The National Assembly decided to defer a bill calling for an increase in the number of judges in the Supreme Court.
The session began at 11 am under the chairmanship of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Among the key legislative proposals on the agenda was a private member’s bill by Daniyal Chaudhry, a government member, to increase the number of Supreme Court judges. The bill proposes to amend the 1997 Act to increase the number of judges to 23.
Other notable bills include constitutional amendment bills by Noor Alam Khan, aiming to amend Articles 51, 59, 177, 193, 208, and 184 of the Constitution.
Sohail Sultan will present a bill to amend various criminal laws, while Changaiz Ahmed Khan will present a bill to amend Article 198 of the Constitution.
The assembly will also discuss several resolutions pertaining to minority protection measures, the provision of improved healthcare facilities in government hospitals of the federal capital, and the promotion of national sports programs.
Furthermore, separate attention-grabbing notices will be presented regarding the allocation of 4.8 million acres of land for corporate farming and the activities of Pakistani mafia operating abroad.
The session is expected to witness lively debates and discussions on these crucial issues.
