Indian teenager shot after being mistaken for cow smuggler

Vigilantes fired shots at the car after chasing it

A 19-year-old Class 12 student, Aryan Mishra, was shot and killed after being mistaken for a cattle smuggler by a group of cow vigilantes. The suspects chased Aryan’s car for 25 kilometers before opening fire.

The incident occurred on the night of August 23 when Aryan and his friends went out for noodles. The vigilantes, believing they were tracking cattle smugglers using similar vehicles, attempted to stop Aryan’s Duster SUV, in Haryana’s Faridabad.

The occupants of the car, fearing confrontation due to a previous dispute, sped away, prompting the vigilantes to pursue them.

During the chase, the vigilantes fired shots at the car, with one bullet striking Aryan, who was seated in the front passenger seat. After the car came to a halt, the assailants approached and fired another shot, fatally wounding him.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, identified as Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, Adesh, and Saurav. The police recovered the weapon used in the shooting from one of the suspects’ residences.
