Last month, a visit to Israel’s Hecht Museum took an unexpected turn for Anna Geller and her four-year-old son, Ariel. While exploring ancient artifacts, Geller briefly looked away, only to hear a loud crash behind her. She turned to find that Ariel had accidentally broken a rare 3,500-year-old jar.

“It was just a moment of distraction,” said Geller, a mother of three from Nahariya, adding, “and then I heard a very big boom.”

What could have been a parent’s worst nightmare turned into a positive experience when the Geller family was invited back to the museum on August 30.

The Bronze Age jar, which had been on display for 35 years, was assessed by restoration experts, who believe the repairs will be straightforward since the pieces are from a single, intact jar. The jar could potentially be back on display as early as next week.
