Power division denies reports of IPP owners being summoned

Reports had claimed 13 IPP owners were summoned to Islamabad

A government committee formed to investigate hefty payments and capacity payments made to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) has decided to take firm action against them, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the Power Division has denied reports of summoning IPP owners, stating that the committee did not call any IPP owner on Sunday.

According to earlier reports, the committee has identified instances of excess profit-making by power plants established under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Reports had claimed that the committee has summoned 13 IPP owners to Islamabad today. These owners have been instructed to bring their financial reports.

The sources further claim that the government needs the cooperation of IPP owners at this time. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Power, Muhammad Ali, is playing a key role in the investigation.

The questioning of IPP owners, if it happens, will be similar to the investigation conducted in 2021. The investigative team has also visited various plants to collect records and data.

The government team will hold high-level talks with Chinese IPPs to secure concessions. Measures will also be taken to reduce capacity payments and profits from state-owned power plants.
