Balochistan continues to grapple with the devastating effects of heavy rains, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, displacing hundreds, and claiming the lives of three more people, bringing the total death toll to 33.

The impact of Cyclone ‘Asna’ is being felt across the province, with low-lying areas in districts including Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Loralai, Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Lasbela, and Bolan inundated after torrential downpours.

The provincial government has declared Jhal Magsi a disaster-affected area, adding to the list that already includes Qalat, Ziarat, Sobatpur, Lasbela, Awaran, Jaffarabad, Osta Muhammad, Loralai, and Chagai.

The heavy rains have disrupted mobile phone, internet, and electricity services across many districts. Authorities are using the Levies wireless system to maintain communication in the higher regions.

In Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, and Ziarat, floods have damaged orchards and crops. Several kilometers of roads, bridges, and numerous houses have been washed away in these districts.

According to the government control room, hundreds of people in Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah are stranded in the open. The recent rains have also claimed the lives of three more individuals.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that since July 1, 33 people, including 13 children, have perished due to the rains. An additional 15 individuals have been injured, including 11 children.

The rains have completely destroyed 558 homes and partially damaged 13,986 others, affecting a total of 109,903 people.

Agricultural losses are significant, with 58,799 acres of crops destroyed by the heavy rains. Floodwaters have also claimed the lives of 373 livestock. Seven bridges on the national highway have also sustained damage.

The Quetta-Chaman railway line has been blocked due to heavy rainfall. The Khojak Tunnel is filled with mud washed down by floodwaters, and the district of Harnai is cut off from the rest of the province.

Repair work on a damaged gas pipeline in Bolan has commenced after the water level receded. Gas supply has been restored in Quetta.

The Rabi Canal has been breached, submerging dozens of villages. The Levies check post on the Sindh-Balochistan border has also been washed away by floodwaters.

Sindh

Sindh province is reeling under the impact of heavy rains, which have inundated several cities and towns, causing widespread damage and displacing residents.

The districts of Pano Aqil, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot, Thul, Thatta, and Badin have been particularly hard hit by the downpour.

In Pano Aqil, the heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging, with streets submerged under two feet of water. Despite two days passing since the rains subsided, the town committee has failed to ensure drainage, leaving the streets flooded and the sewage system blocked. This has sparked protests from local traders.

Jamshoro is experiencing intermittent heavy rains, with the district administration struggling to manage the drainage situation, leaving residents facing severe difficulties.

In Kambar Shahdadkot, areas remain submerged following the recent rains, with many residents displaced and awaiting government assistance after their homes collapsed due to the heavy downpour.

The intermittent rains in Thul have caused widespread devastation, with low-lying areas inundated and floodwater entering the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, causing immense hardship for patients and local residents.

The recent rains in Badin district have wreaked havoc, crippling daily life and damaging thousands of acres of crops due to breaches in irrigation canals.

Over a hundred small irrigation canals in Badin and surrounding areas have breached due to the increased water flow caused by the heavy rains.

Thousands of acres of cotton, chili, tomato, onion, and rice crops have been submerged, causing losses worth millions of rupees for farmers. The lack of cleaning and maintenance of the irrigation canals is being blamed for the flooding of crops.

The negligence of the administration has resulted in significant losses for farmers. If the drainage system is not restored and the water is not drained, the sowing of crops in the upcoming season could also be affected.

In Thatta, the water level in the Indus River has risen near Sajawal due to the rainfall, leading to flooding in the surrounding areas. Residents of the low-lying areas have been forced to evacuate their homes.
