The Punjab government has officially launched the ‘Himmat Card’ initiative aimed at providing support to persons with disabilities (PWDs) through ATM cards.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Social Welfare and the Bank of Punjab, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in attendance.

This program intends to distribute ATM cards to 65,000 eligible individuals, each receiving a quarterly stipend of Rs10,500.

The rollout will take place in two phases: the first phase will benefit 40,000 individuals, while the second phase will issue cards to an additional 25,000 recipients. Payments are set to begin on September 15.

During the announcement, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s responsibility to assist vulnerable populations. She noted that the Himmat Card will also serve as a foundation for providing additional services to PWDs in the future.

Eligibility criteria for the card include certification as a PWD, being unfit for work, and not being employed in any sector, among other requirements.
