The Punjab government issued an alert throughout the province’s schools regarding prevention of pink eye infection.

The Schools Education Authority has told schools to begin a ‘zero period’ to tell students about the infection and ways to prevent it.

School teachers have been instructed to explain the causes of the disease and its preventative measures and to enforce the health guidelines already issued.

The health department already issued detailed guidelines to deal with the disease on Thursday.

The safety protocols came a day afte the Punjab Health Department recorded more than 100 cases in Lahore instances in its outpatient department (OPD) until Wednesday.

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye disease, is the swelling of the conjunctiva (the thin layer that lines the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelid) and/or eyelids, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in the US.
