The federal government removed Balochistan IGP Abdul Khalique Sheikh from his position and appointed Moazzam Jah Ansari as the new Inspector General of Balochistan Police on Wednesday.

The Establishment Division issued notifications confirming that BS-21 officer Abdul Khalique Sheikh has been replaced, with BS-22 officer Moazzam Jah Ansari taking over. Sheikh has been instructed to report to the Establishment Division immediately until further notice.

The notification for Ansari’s appointment states that, with federal approval, he is transferred from his current role as Commandant of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) to serve as the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) for the Government of Balochistan, effective immediately.

Later that day, the new IGP met with President Asif Ali Zardari, who emphasized the importance of improving the law and order situation in Balochistan. The president wished Ansari well in his new role.

Balochistan has been facing ongoing terrorism issues. Earlier this week, at least 50 people, including 14 security personnel, were killed in various attacks by militants from the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), who targeted police stations, damaged railway tracks, and set fire to numerous vehicles.
