PNS Babur and Hunain were manufactured abroad

The Pakistan Navy is gearing up for two major inductions on September 6th, Defence Day, marking a significant boost to its capabilities.

Sources reveal that PNS Babur, a Turkish-built Babur-class frigate, and PNS Hunain, a Romanian-built OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel), will be simultaneously inducted into the Pakistan Navy.

The ceremony will be graced by President Asif Ali Zardari as the chief guest.

PNS Babur, the first of its class, was laid down on June 4, 2020, launched on August 15, 2021, and commissioned on September 23, 2023.

The Babur-class frigates, equipped with vertical launch systems, are being built under a Pakistan-Turkey agreement. Two ships are being constructed in Istanbul, and two in Karachi. Three other ships of the class, PNS Badar, Tariq, and Khyber, are currently under construction at various stages.

The Babur-class ships are capable of fighting simultaneously on the surface, underwater, and in the air. The 2888-ton Babur-class ships are equipped with advanced weapon systems for engaging targets.
