Strict security in place for Iman Hussain’s chehlum across Pakistan
Security measures have been heightened across Pakistan for the Chehlum of Imam Hussain, the 40th day of mourning after his martyrdom. Alternative routes have been planned for the main procession in Karachi, while Islamabad has deployed strict security measures and Peshawar has mobilized nearly 4,000 police officers.
Karachi
Traffic police in Karachi have announced alternate routes for the main Chehlum procession. The MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Gurumandar to Tower during the procession.
Traffic from Nazimabad will be diverted from Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road. Traffic from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk. Vehicles heading to the Exhibition from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be diverted to Kashmir Road.
The main procession will start from Nishtar Park and culminate at the Husainia Irania Imambargah, following its traditional route.
A ban on double riding on motorcycles has been imposed across Sindh.
Islamabad
Strict security measures have been implemented for the Chehlum procession in Islamabad.
The procession, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala, will start from the Imambargah Athna Ashri G-6/2 and will return to the same location after following its designated route.
Streets and roads along the procession route have been sealed. Participants will be screened at designated checkpoints.
Walk-through gates have been set up for participants, and the Capital Police have deployed security personnel along the route.
Peshawar
Two processions will be held in Peshawar today to mark the Chehlum of Imam Hussain. The first procession will start from the Imambargah Agha Syed Lal Shah at 3:00 PM, while the second procession will start from the Imambargah Husainia Hall at 10:00 PM.
Strict security measures have been implemented along the procession routes. Police checkpoints have been set up at entry points, and water stations have been arranged for mourners.
According to a police spokesperson, nearly 4,000 police officers will be deployed across Peshawar for security purposes. All procession routes will be swept by bomb disposal units and sniffer dogs. CCTV cameras will monitor the processions.
Security has been enhanced at entry and exit points of the city. Checkpoints have been set up in the city’s interior. Hotels and guesthouses are being checked regularly as part of the security plan. Plainclothes police officers and armored vehicles have been deployed at important and sensitive mosques.
Additional traffic officers have been deployed to manage traffic flow during the processions. Snipers have been positioned on high-rise buildings along the procession routes.
