Pak Army’s Major Sania Safdar honored with UN gender award
A member of the Pakistan Army serving with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Major Sania Safdar, has become the first peacekeeper from the mission to receive the 2023 ‘Certificate of Recognition’ from the United Nations.
The award was given in recognition of Major Safdar’s advocacy for gender equality.
The certificate was presented to Major Safdar by Colin Stewart, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, according to a statement released by the UNFICYP mission on Wednesday.
United Nations Pakistan took to their X saying: “Major Sania Safdar from Pakistan makes history! She’s the first UNFICYP peacekeeper to receive the 2023 Certificate of Recognition for gender advocacy.”
“Receiving this certificate as the first peacekeeper from UNFICYP is deeply meaningful to me and significant for our mission in Cyprus. It serves as a testament to our commitment to gender equality,” Maj Safdar said.
