Bangladesh opening batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy will miss the first Test against Pakistan, which gets underway in Rawalpindi on August 21, due to a groin strain.

“Such injuries usually take about 10 to 14 days to recover from,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement. “We hope to have him fit for the second Test which starts on August 30.”

The Bangladesh squad arrived in Lahore on Tuesday for the Test series and trained at Gaddafi Stadium from August 14 to 16 before travelling to Islamabad on August 17 to practice at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from August 18 to 20.

The opening Test will be played from Aug 21 to 25 in Rawalpindi.

Joy had complained of pain in the right groin on August 14 while playing for Bangladesh A in the four-day match against Pakistan A, National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said. The right-hand batter underwent an MRI followed by physical assessment and it was confirmed that he has a “Grade 1 adductor strain” in the right groin.

He has begun his rehab, Khan said and added: “We will continue to monitor his progress on a day-to-day basis.”
