Govt updating existing web management system to firewall: Khawaja says

She also highlighted the government's efforts to conduct 5G auctions

Minister of State for Information Technology (IT) Shaza Fatima Khawaja has acknowledged complaints regarding slow internet speeds in Pakistan, emphasizing the crucial role of reliable internet access for the country’s digital economy and digital governance.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the minister stated that she has requested data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the past two weeks to analyze internet traffic and determine the cause of the slow speeds.

She also highlighted the government’s efforts to conduct 5G auctions.

Regarding the installation of a firewall, the minister clarified that it is a cybersecurity measure implemented to protect against cyberattacks, a practice common among countries worldwide.

She explained that the government is upgrading the existing web management system to a firewall, emphasizing its importance in safeguarding against cyber threats.
