In a recent sit-down interview with CBS’ Jane Pauley, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry discussed their latest project, The Parents Network. But the interview took an unexpected turn when Pauley asked Markle about her past mental health struggles, a topic the Duchess of Sussex allegedly found upsetting.

According to royal commentators, she was “furious” and “very annoyed” by the question, which she had not been expecting.

In the interview, Pauley acknowledged Markle’s discomfort, saying: “I’m dancing around this [Meghan’s mental health claims] because I can see you’re uncomfortable with me even going there.”

Markle responded by acknowledging the importance of being open about mental health challenges, stating, “I understand why you are though. I wasn’t expecting it, but I understand why you are. When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey, certainly mine, is to be able to be really open about it.”

She went on to say that she would be willing to take “a hit” if speaking about her experiences could help others, adding: “If me voicing what I have overcome will save someone, or encourage someone in their life to really genuinely check in on them, and not assume that the appearance is good and so everything is okay, then that’s worth it.”

But royal author and commentator Daniela Elser claimed that Markle was “very annoyed” by the question and reportedly spoke sternly to the producers afterward. The incident has sparked renewed speculation about the Duchess’ relationship with the media and her willingness to discuss her personal struggles.
