A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa would deliver the judgment on the recount of votes in three National Assembly constituencies on Monday (tomorrow).

The apex court would rule on the appeals filed regarding the recounting of votes in three National Assembly constituencies. Objections were raised in NA-154 Lodhran, NA-81 Gujranwala, and NA-79 Gujranwala.

This comes after concerns were raised about the integrity of the voting process in above mentioned constituencies during the recent general elections.

Last month, the SC bench completed the proceedings in an appeal for the recounting of votes in the NA-81 constituency. The appellant Azhar Qayyum Nahra, who had lost the February 8 election to independent candidate Chaudhry Bilal Ejaz, had sought a recounting of votes.

The general elections in Pakistan were held on February 8 amid concerns by Imran Khan’s party over not providing a “level playing field.” But to many people’s dismay, the independent candidates backed by the PTI secured maximum seats.

The party claimed that elections were rigged as the government tampered with the results. An allegation the interim setup denied.
